Multiphase Flow and Sand Transport Facility
The largest diameter multiphase flow loop available in any test facility worldwide, this 16-inch diameter, 170 feet long flow loop is used to characterize multiphase flows in low liquid loading systems, measure gas void fractions in pseudo-slugs and determine critical transport velocity for sand transport. Sand beds can be formed insitu and the bed clean up efficiency can be studied. The flow loop is inclinable up to 5 degrees. Test fluids include air, water, model oil along with sand. Extensive studies to understand momentum transfer from gas to liquid phase have been conducted. Liquid film velocity profiles have been measured using ultrasonic velocity profilers and Particle Imaging Velocimetry (PIV) techniques to correlate film velocities to solid transport.
